Job Profile

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, Environmental Services, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, housekeeping, inspection, problem diagnosis, and troubleshooting for equipment, machinery, and tools at all Environmental Services facilities (including but not limited to wastewater and storm water pumping/lift stations, Water Pollution Control Centre, Biosolids Plant, Devine Street Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Facility, Compost Site and Bright’s Grove Lagoon Facilities) ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations and legislations.

You will also respond to spills as a member of the Environmental Services Spills Response team in accordance with regulations and established routines.

The home location of this position may vary.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Qualification from Skilled Trades Ontario (Millwright, Electrician, Auto Mechanic, Plumber, etc.)
  • Minimum one (1) year of related work experience
  • Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO) Operator-in-Training (OIT) certification for Wastewater Collection and Treatment, or ability to obtain within trial period
  • Valid Class G driver’s license with an abstract acceptable to City guidelines

Demonstrated Skills And Abilities

  • Servicing, installing, repairing, and maintaining equipment, machinery, and tools
  • Reading and interpreting maintenance/operation manuals, electrical/mechanical drawings, schematics, and diagrams
  • Working knowledge in the operation of heavy equipment and rigging methods
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management principles as related to supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control
  • Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
  • Ability to work in small, cramped areas and confined spaces to repair equipment
