Clearwater’s Glace Bay, NS location requires a Maintenance Technician.

Purpose of Position:

Assist in all aspects of the day-to-day maintenance and preventive maintenance for the clam and crab operations at Highland Fisheries.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to: Maintenance Manager.

Duties & Accountabilities:

1. Perform a wide variety of general plant maintenance repairs and services.
2. Maintenance and repair of pumps, hydraulic systems, air compressors, processing and packaging equipment.
3. Monitor shipments of spare parts and replacement of equipment.
4. Coordinate special projects as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
5. This job requires lifting weights in excess of 40kg and working in tight areas.
6. Perform welding and plumbing duties as needed.
7. Responsible for alerting the Maintenance Manager of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that has taken place or that may occur.
8. Maintain a professional courteous manner with all vendors, contractors, and fellow employees.
9. Assure safety standards are used which comply with all company policies.
10. Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as scheduled.
11. Great communication skills, and team collaboration is necessary.
12. Problem solving abilities are a definite must.
13. Attention to detail and quality assurance.
14. Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy.
15. Great people skills, approachable, and able to resolve conflict.

Working Conditions:

1. This can be a high-stress position. Most of the time is spent on the plant production floor, which can prove to be cool & damp.
2. This is a shift work position, which includes day and night shifts and occasional weekends.

Qualifications:

1. Red Seal Certification or a valid Millwright Ticket is required.
2. Three to Five years experience in a maintenance role would be an asset.
3. Knowledge of plumbing, woodworking, painting, electricity.
4. Basic welding and brazing practices and techniques.
5. Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in area of work assigned.
6. Ability to operate pallet jack and forklift.
7. Experience with a variety of types of equipment i.e., pumps, hydraulics, packaging equipment, conveyors.
8. Basic Computer skills & HVAC is an asset.
9. A relevant trade designation i.e., millwright, electrician etc. is an asset.
10. Training in confined space, lock out etc. is an asset.
