About the Role

The Maintenance Supervisor ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, Food Safety Standards, and CAL/OSHA Safety Regulations. This role is responsible for continuous improvement efforts, preventative maintenance, and addressing day-to-day mechanical needs to support ongoing operations. The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the mechanics and the Maintenance Coordinator, including their responsibilities and any necessary disciplinary actions. This position plays a key leadership role in all maintenance-related projects to ensure alignment with departmental expectations.

  • Status: Exempt, Full-time
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, with weekends and holidays as needed
  • Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Work Hours: Minimum 8 hours/day, with mandatory overtime as required

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce all Safety, Allergen Control, Food Safety and Sanitation, Food Defense, and SQF policies and procedures
  • Oversee facility equipment including chillers, wastewater systems, HVAC, and electrical systems
  • Ensure all plant equipment is operational and OSHA compliant (e.g., mixers, packaging machines, pumps, valves)
  • Collaborate with site leadership on customer complaints requiring mechanical insight
  • Maintain and manage the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Lead and improve the Preventive Maintenance program
  • Sustain and update maintenance training and development programs
  • Track and improve key maintenance metrics (e.g., asset utilization, PM compliance, downtime)
  • Oversee shop cleanup, equipment repairs, and spare parts inventory
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and mentor maintenance team members
  • Manage schedules and workloads for the Maintenance Coordinator and Mechanics
  • Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations
  • Administer employee discipline in accordance with company policy

Work Environment

  • PPE Required: Hair/beard net, gloves, safety shoes, bump cap, smocks
  • Exposure: Cleaning chemicals, food allergens
  • Temperature: Refrigerated environment (approx. 37°F)

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in food manufacturing
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Technical certifications and PLC knowledge
  • Familiarity with mechanical, safety, and food safety standards
  • HACCP Certification
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and build consensus
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to maintain a safe and positive work environment
  • Physical ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (bending, twisting, standing, etc.)
