Job summary

A leading sanitation company in Toronto is seeking a Maintenance Technician responsible for the repair and maintenance of diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks. The role requires skills in diagnostics, inspections, and preventative maintenance, along with certifications in Automotive Service Technician and a valid Driver’s License. Candidates with 2-4 years of experience in this field will be preferred.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of both gasoline and diesel powered equipment diagnosis and repair.

Responsibilities

Job description
POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks. The incumbent will repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical equipment. The Maintenance Technician performs basic care and maintenance, including changing oil, checking fluid levels, and rotating tires and may test-drive vehicles to ensure that they run smoothly.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains a working knowledge of, and moderate skill proficiency in vehicle components and systems, and performs preventative and repair maintenance functions, both on-site and on the road.
  • Identifies the source of malfunctions using a variety of electronic diagnostic tools and performs repair and maintenance on vehicle and equipment engines, chassis components, suspension, drivetrain, steering systems, heating and cooling systems and line maintenance welding and fabrication.
  • Replaces fuses for various mechanical, including control, hydraulic, and electrical systems; and air and hydraulic braking systems.
  • Safely provides road service when necessary to ensure that the Company’s equipment is returned to operation in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Plans work procedures, using technical charts and manuals.
  • Follows checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to perform basic inspections of heavy truck, or automotive systems.
  • Understanding of work order labor time standards.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and other systems.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of tools, and common devices.
  • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of maintenance work to be performed on Classes 1-5 light/medium duty and heavy-duty Class 7-8 trucks.
  • Automotive Service Technician 310S/ Truck and Coach 310T certification. (preferred)
  • Valid Driver’s License. (required)

  • 2-4 years of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of both gasoline and diesel powered equipment diagnosis and repair.
