Job Summary:

Specific Duties:

  1. Performs a wide variety of plumbing, pipe and gas fitting work by repairing, installing and renovating pipelines, plumbing fixtures and all related equipment.
  2. Perform preventative maintenance on all plumbing, gas systems and equipment.
  3. Maintain knowledge of relevant industry standards and technologies, ensuring all plumbing and gas systems are consistent with the highest industry standards.
  4. Provides input on new construction/renovations plans as requested.
  5. Ensure blueprints and schematic drawings are kept current, reflecting changes or alterations made to plumbing and gas fitting systems and equipment. Any changes are to be submitted to the Campus Development Coordinator.
  6. Ensure that appropriate permits are obtained, licensing is maintained and all necessary records are kept to meet regulatory requirements.
  7. Record cost of time and materials for all work orders.
  8. Estimate costs and obtain prices for materials needed.
  9. Ensures proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  10. Ensures that all work orders are carried out according to priority and predetermined procedures and schedules as approved by Facilities Management.
  11. Ensures that all work is carried out with the least amount of disruption to affected areas.
  12. Ensures all Federal, Provincial Regulations and City by-laws are observed at all times.
  13. Maintenance of fleet vehicles as required.
  14. Assist in College operations and events, not limited to, event set-up, snow removal, driving duties and general clean up.
  15. Assists with emergency procedures, not limited to, fire alarms and emergency evacuation.
  16. Make suggestions and recommendations to improve working practices and improve efficiency.
  17. Assist other Facilities personnel as directed by Facilities Management.
  18. Use communication devices i.e. cellular telephone, radios.
  19. Required to wear College issued uniforms and maintain a professional, clean appearance.
  20. You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
  21. You will promote a positive work atmosphere and communicate in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
  22. Other related duties as assigned by Facilities Management.

Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion of Grade 12.
  2. Journeyperson Plumber and Gas Fitter Certification.
  3. Five years’ experience as a journeyperson plumber/gas fitter preferably in an institutional environment or large building complex.
  4. Back-flow prevention testing experience.
  5. Working knowledge of HVAC equipment.
  6. A good knowledge of plumbing, gas fitting, and building trades.
  7. Good judgement with proven troubleshooting and organizational skills required.
  8. Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment related to plumbing, gas fitting and general building maintenance.
  9. Ability to read blueprints necessary.
  10. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  11. Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Proficiency with computers is an asset.
  13. Obtain Level 2 Occupational First Aid ticket if required.
  14. Have and maintain class 5 driver’s license, may be required to upgrade to class 2 license.
  15. Bonding required.

Salary: $74,688 per year plus a Labour Market Adjustment of $2500 annually
