Position Overview: Maintenance Planner

The Maintenance Planner plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance operations by planning and scheduling corrective, preventive, and project maintenance tasks. This includes coordinating the essential components of building systems or equipment, developing comprehensive work packages, and ensuring these are scheduled and completed efficiently. Working under minimal supervision, the Maintenance Planner exercises considerable independent judgment and collaborates closely with Managers, Forepersons, and other team members to ensure maintenance goals are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work Package Development: Create detailed work packages for various department Forepersons, including job scope, labour estimates, permits, safety procedures, equipment locations, materials lists, special instructions, and inspection sheets.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Hold regular planning meetings with Managers and Forepersons to review scheduled, future, and backlogged work, ensuring alignment with workforce availability, budgets, and timelines.
  • Data Analysis and Maintenance Trends: Analyze maintenance data and historical records to assess equipment performance, recommending repair or replacement as needed.
  • Operational Innovation: Develop innovative solutions to operational challenges related to facility maintenance and repair planning.
  • Knowledge Management: Build and maintain a job plan library with tools, safety references, and materials lists to streamline recurring maintenance tasks.
  • System Management: Update and maintain corrective and preventive maintenance data within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (EBASE).
  • Communication: Collaborate with Site Administrators to clarify work scope and schedule maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to site operations.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of WHMIS, WCB, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and District safe work procedures.
  • Technical Expertise: Familiarity with tools, techniques, equipment, and materials for maintenance tasks.
  • Technological Proficiency: Proficient in computerized maintenance management system (EBASE knowledge is an asset), project scheduling systems, spreadsheets, word processing applications, and maintenance tracking/reporting software.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, capable of interacting effectively with staff, management, and external contacts.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze architectural and engineering drawings, plans, and sketches, and generate insightful reports.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across teams.

Education And Experience

  • Completion of a two-year diploma in a relevant technical discipline from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a related maintenance field, including supervisory responsibilities, or equivalent training and experience.

Licenses, Certificates and Registrations

  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Applied Science Technologist or Certified Technician in the appropriate discipline with the association.

This is a unionized position that offers an hourly wage rate of $38.68 per hour plus a liberal benefit package including pension, health, vacation, and sick benefits, as per the collective agreement.
