Position Description


Job Title: Maintenance Planner


Department: Maintenance


Location: Cornwall, ON


Reports To: Maintenance Manager


Status: Full-Time, Exempt


Position Overview: The Maintenance Planner plays a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of maintenance operations by organizing and scheduling maintenance activities, managing spare parts inventory, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This position acts as a key contributor to equipment performance and reliability, working closely with maintenance and operations teams to align maintenance planning with production goals, safety standards, and long-term operational excellence.




Principle Accountabilities



  • Lead regular maintenance meetings to set priorities, schedule equipment outages, and drive continuous improvement by addressing root causes of equipment issues.

  • Assign and coordinate work orders with the maintenance team, ensuring clarity of instructions, availability of parts and materials, and adequate labor resources (internal and external).

  • Develop and maintain weekly maintenance schedules and planned equipment outages, ensuring all tasks are fully prepared in advance.

  • Manage the on-call rotation schedule for after-hours support.

  • Review equipment breakdowns with the team and follow up as required to:

    • Order necessary parts

    • Send components for external repair (motors, machine shop work etc.)

    • Replace temporary fixes with permanent solution

    • Assess and adjust spare parts inventory levels



  • Enhance the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program by collaborating with operations to:

    • Prevent recurring breakdowns

    • Incorporate OEM recommendations

    • Optimize downtime during shutdowns and changeovers

    • Ensure timely completion of operator-assigned tasks



  • Plan and update work schedules for major equipment shutdowns, including:

    • PM and planned maintenance tasks

    • Assigned personnel and estimated task durations

    • Ensuring all required parts are in stock and ready before equipment shutdown.



  • Prepare regular reports, including weekly schedule compliance, downtime summaries, equipment failure investigations, and PM compliance.

  • Perform other duties as required.




Qualifications and Requirements



  • Diploma in Engineering Technology or equivalent trade certification (e.g., Industrial Electrician, Millwright).

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and repair methods.

  • Proficiency with CMMS or other maintenance software's.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access). Experience with AutoCAD, an asset.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
