Job summary

Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Hamilton is seeking a part-time Maintenance Person for approximately 10 hours per week of year around responsibilities. The role reports to the Parish Priest and offers a competitive pay rate with a flexible start time not before 8 am.

Responsibilities span seasonal groundskeeping, winter snow and ice control, and year-round maintenance of lighting, fire alarms, utilities, and facilities. A valid G-class license and ability to work independently are required.

Qualifications

• 3 years related experience in maintenance & groundskeeping/landscaping preferred.
• Ability to perform physical work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Familiar with safe operations and maintenance of landscaping equipment (lawnmower, trimmers, snow blower, etc.).
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
• Steel-toed safety boots.
• Valid G Class Driver’s license.
• Flexible availability, which may include evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Spring/Summer/Fall duties include grass cutting and upkeep of grounds and gardens.
• Winter duties include snow and ice control of doorways, steps, and walkways including saltings, shoveling, and snow blower.
• Year-round duties include inspection of lighting, fire alarms, and emergency systems; tests with various departments.
• Maintain logs and perform basic building repairs as needed.
• Set up rooms/spaces for funerals and events in the Parish Hall and lobby.
• Clean the church and Parish Hall weekly and ensure areas are tidy.

Employment Type: Part-Time, approx. 10 hours/week

POSITION SUMMARY

Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Hamilton is seeking a part-time Maintenance Person for approximately 10 hours per week of year around responsibilities. Spring/summer/fall/winter responsibilities as many hours as needed with the prior approval of the pastor. Reporting to the Parish Priest, this position offers a competitive rate of pay and requires a commitment to work flexible hours starting not sooner than 8 am.

DUTIES & RESPONABILITIES

Spring/Summer/Fall

• Cutting grass with mowing equipment and upkeep of general grounds and gardens.
• Watering, weeding, and fall leaf collection.

Winter

• Snow and ice control of doorways, steps, and walkways including salting, shoveling, and use of snow blower.
• Maintenance of winter snow removal logs.
• Outdoor and indoor Liturgical seasonal decorating.

Year-Round (All Season)

• Conduct regular inspection of Parish lighting system, fire alarm, and emergency systems, including monthly fire alarm tests.
• Facilitate inspections and tests (Fire department, backflow testing, furnace, AC, elevator).
• Parish garbage collection/recycling and disposal upkeep.
• Inspect the grounds for garbage and keep areas surrounding the rectory, office, and church clean.
• Perform maintenance cleaning of the church building on a weekly basis, including vacuuming of the sanctuary area and washing the church floor and washrooms. Clean the Parish Hall as needed.
• Set up/take down rooms/spaces for funerals and other events (e.g., tables, chairs, etc.) in the Parish Hall and lobby as needed.
• Boiler care daily in winter, occasionally in spring/fall.
• General electrical, plumbing, and minor building repairs as needed.
• Maintains adequate supplies for the various facilities including washrooms, parking lot, and grounds.
• Ensure appropriate maintenance logs are completed and up to date.
• Participate in an emergency contact list.
• Performs other duties as required.
