Job summary

Prysmian in Oshawa, Ontario is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic/Millwright to install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, and overhaul manufacturing equipment. You will help reduce downtime and support continuous improvement across shifts.

Qualified candidates hold an Ontario 433A Millwright certificate, with at least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience and the ability to read blueprints and work with CMMS systems.

Qualifications

  • Ontario Certificate of Qualification (Industrial Mechanic Millwright – 433A)
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and troubleshooting capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility assets.
  • Inspect equipment for wear, misalignment, vibration, leaks or failures.
  • Complete predictive maintenance including vibration analysis and lubrication programs.
  • Maintain maintenance records using CMMS.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical failures and respond to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Install new machinery and participate in upgrades and capital projects.
  • Perform alignment, leveling, FAT/SAT support, and commissioning.
  • Carry out basic welding and fabrication as required.
  • Identify root causes and support RCA, Kaizen and Lean initiatives.
  • Follow OHSA and safety policies including LOTO procedures.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Operations.

Work Location: Oshawa, Ontario

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (8-hour shifts, monthly on-call, & overtime when needed)

What You’ll Do

The Maintenance Mechanic/Millwright must possess a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) (433A) or the ability to obtain within an agreed upon time frame. Demonstrate strong mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and troubleshooting capabilities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) activities on manufacturing equipment and facility assets.
  • Inspect machinery and equipment for signs of wear, misalignment, vibration, leaks, or mechanical failure.
  • Complete predictive maintenance activities including vibration analysis, thermal inspections, lubrication programs, and condition monitoring where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Troubleshooting and Repairs
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical failures on production equipment and supporting plant systems.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and equipment failures to minimize operational downtime.
  • Troubleshoot gearboxes, pumps, compressors, conveyors, bearings, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, packaging equipment, and production machinery.
  • Interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Replace, rebuild, fabricate, or refurbish machine components as required.
Installation and Commissioning
  • Install new machinery and production equipment.
  • Participate in equipment upgrades, modifications, and capital projects.
  • Perform precision alignment of machinery using laser alignment equipment, dial indicators, or other precision tools.
  • Conduct machinery levelling, balancing, and commissioning activities.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) as required.
Fabrication and Welding
  • Perform basic welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication activities.
  • Fabricate machine guards, brackets, supports, and repair components as required.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, machining equipment, and maintenance shop equipment safely and effectively.
Reliability and Continuous Improvement
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Kaizen events, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and process improvements to enhance reliability, productivity, and safety.
  • Support Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement initiatives.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Follow Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations and company standards.
  • Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification prior to work.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in maintenance shops and work areas.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams.
  • Mentor apprentices and less experienced maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in shift handovers and maintenance planning meetings.
  • Provide technical support during major shutdowns and start-ups.
