Belvika Trade & Packaging Ltd. DBA BelPak is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for the McPherson facility in Markham, Ontario.

The junior-to-intermediate position offers mentorship from senior mechanics and operations leadership, with opportunities to learn new skills while performing routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative care on packaging equipment. Applicants should have at least two years of manufacturing experience, strong communication, and troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years in manufacturing or packaging is an asset.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Excellent troubleshooting abilities and instruction-following capacity.
• Pre-apprenticeship or trades certification is an asset; LOTO training is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Set up, change over, and troubleshoot packaging and related equipment.
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
• Monitor machines for quality and conformance to standards.
• Troubleshoot using manuals and CMMS documentation.
• Adjust machine settings to optimize performance and product packing.
• Provide preventative maintenance on production machinery and equipment.
• Train line equipment operators and assist on production lines as needed.
• Maintain CMMS records for repairs and parts inventory.

BelPak is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to work closely with the Maintenance Mechanic Team. They will perform all routine maintenance and inspection of all mechanical equipment. This position is a junior to intermediate position which will offer you the ability to learn new skills and knowledge while being mentored and supported by the senior Maintenance Mechanics and Operations Site Manager at our McPherson facility located at 121 McPherson St. Markham, Ontario L3R 3L3.

The successful candidate will:

• Set up, change over, and troubleshoot vertical and horizontal packaging machines, filling machines, ink jet coders and a variety of other similar packaging equipment utilized at Belvika.
• Adhere to allsafety policies and procedures.
• Observe machine while operating to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards.
• Ability to utilize manuals to help troubleshoot effectively issues with machinery.
• Adjust machine components, settings, tensions, and pressures to ensure optimal machinery operation of product packing.
• Regulate machine flow or speed.
• Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a supervisor.
• Inspect and remove defective products and packaging material.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all production machinery and equipment including pneumatic systems, conveyors, and electrical systems.
• Monitor the production line, watching for problems such as pileups, jams, or glue that isn't sticking properly.
• Train the Line Equipment Operators.
• Assist on production lines as necessary.
• Perform building maintenance as required, (i.e. changing batteries, light bulbs and ceiling tiles etc.).
• Be proficient in the use of the CMMS system for documenting repairs, Preventative maintenance, and parts inventory management.
• Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
• Sundry duties as assigned.

Education/Work experience requirements:

• Minimum of two years relevant experience in manufacturing or packaging is an asset.
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Pre-apprenticeship certification an asset
• Other trades certifications an asset
• LOTO Training an asset.
• Self-starter who has great time management skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office such as Outlook
• Previous knowledge of CMMS system Brightly (formerly Dude Solutions)
