Job Purpose Summary: The Maintenance Mechanic will carry out repair and preventive maintenance activities. This includes diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing parts for flat roll steel slitting lines, packaging equipment, banding tools, and hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities Operational :
- Ensure the maintenance and repair of Bailey's machinery, equipment, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems while meeting scheduling priorities, safety, quality, productivity, and reliability requirements.
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of maintenance workers to ensure orders are completed meeting customer and interdepartmental requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain schedules and procedures for preventive maintenance programs in coordination with necessary departments and maintain logs/documents.
- Advise daily on the required repair time to scheduling and production departments if it takes more than a specified number of hours; record equipment downtime and repairs systematically.
- Search, negotiate, and administer contracts for supplies, parts, and services for maintenance, including annual inspection of material handling equipment.
- Plan, organize, transfer, and install machinery and equipment according to manufacturer's instructions without compromising safety.
- Report daily on equipment requiring preventive maintenance, repair, or parts replacement. Develop reporting forms and documentation.
- Plan, track, and manage the maintenance budget.
- Identify and implement work measures to continually improve maintenance methods, systems, productivity, safety, and service quality.
- Provide assistance as requested by management.
- Able to work shift schedules to accommodate production demands.
Health and Safety :
- Maintain knowledge of all Health & Safety policies.
- Correct and communicate unsafe acts/conditions to the plant/safety manager.
- Support and promote all aspects of the corporate Health & Safety program.
- Perform regular workplace inspections, scheduled and unscheduled.
- Monitor accident frequency and injury data, and analyze injury reports.
- Report incidents promptly, conduct investigations, and act on recommendations.
- Comply with Bailey's safety programs, confidentiality, and legal requirements.
Qualifications :
- Experience in a steel processing or steel-making plant environment is preferred.
- Electronic/Instrumentation maintenance experience is essential.
- Hydraulic systems and heavy equipment experience is essential.
- Welding skills (MIG and TIG) are an asset.
- Forklift and overhead crane repair knowledge is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, regulations, and Bailey products.
- Proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading English.
- Personal attributes include being cooperative, ethical, open-minded, observant, and tenacious.
- Quick learner, team player, capable of meeting deadlines, with initiative.
- Computer skills, including MS Outlook and Excel, are required.
