Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and coordinate maintenance work groups by providing ongoing leadership and performance feedback to efficiently and effectively maintain the site’s infrastructure, equipment, systems and building services at a level that meets safety, regulatory compliance and applicable government guidelines and codes, ensuring there is no loss of production or products.
- Execute preventive maintenance programs for site-wide utilities, HVAC, refrigeration, infrastructure, and building systems while supervising trades personnel and contractors to ensure compliance with best maintenance practices, HSE, and quality standards.
- Manage work order completion and documentation in CMMS (SAP) system, ensuring timely closure and proper record-keeping for all maintenance activities.
- Provide maintenance support to production units, collaborating with Production, Technical Services, Quality teams, and contractors to minimize equipment downtime and support manufacturing schedules.
- Oversee all mechanical rooms, pest control program, and site repair activities to maintain facility operations and regulatory compliance.
- Respond to site emergencies as on-call maintenance manager during off-shift hours, ensuring prompt resolution of critical issues.
- Support project and engineering teams with planning and execution, contributing technical expertise to develop project plans, SOPs, and standards.
- Collaborate with Cost Control to identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining operational excellence.
- Ensure personnel safety and environmental compliance by monitoring adherence to health and safety legislation, investigating incidents, and maintaining protective equipment standards.
- Apply cGMP knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing requirements to make decisions that protect product safety, integrity, strength, purity, and quality (SISPQ) and prevent business disruption.
About You
- Technical diploma/certificate with 4+ years of building and equipment maintenance experience OR bachelor’s degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical preferred) with 2 years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of various trades and current maintenance best practices.
- Knowledge of GMP/GLP principles in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.
- Familiarity with common maintenance challenges and solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer license (Ontario) or membership in a relevant professional association (e.g., OACETT).
- Process engineering experience.
- Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing environments.
