Job summary

Domtar Corporation in Port Alberni, BC, is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead our Port Alberni Mill maintenance team. You will oversee mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and reliability, drive safety programs, manage budgets, and coordinate with unions and operations to sustain production.

The role requires 5–10 years in-plant management, an engineering degree and Red Seal Journeyman certification, with a competitive compensation package and clear growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must have industry experience, Paper Mill experience preferred.
• Strong technical skills with at least 5-10 yrs in-plant management/supervisory experience.
• Degree in Engineering or related field and/or Red Seal Journeyman certification.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates the maintenance function of the Port Alberni Mill (Mechanical, Reliability, Electrical and Instrumentation).
• Ensures reliability levels to meet production while controlling costs.
• Develops and executes maintenance activities for the mill.
• Sustains preservation of the mill and its equipment.
• Participates in recruitment of trades personnel and assists in training and development.
• Develops departmental budgets, prioritizes spending, and advises management on outlays.
• Ensures conformance to the Labor Contract and Company policies.
• Directs Maintenance Supervisors and tradesmen in safety programs and environmental policies.
• Liaises with union representatives and manages contracting out issues.
• Sits on Standing and Apprenticeship committees and collaborates with peer mills.

The location in Port Alberni, BC is seeking talent to fill the position of Maintenance Manager.

This job is permanent and full-time.

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Facilitates the overall maintenance function of the Port Alberni Mill (Mechanical, Reliability, Electrical and Instrumentation).
• Ensuring the level of reliability required to attain plant production levels while containing costs through most effectively applying maintenance resources.
• Develop, implement and execute maintenance and maintenance related activities in the Mill.
• Sustaining the level of preservation of the mill and its equipment.
• Participates in the recruitment of trades personnel, assesses job performance for reporting supervisors, and assists in training and development of the same.
• Develops departmental budgets, prioritizes spending, and advises senior management on over-runs and extraordinary equipment requisitions.
• Ensures conformance to the Labor Contract and Company policies.
• Directs Maintenance Supervisors and tradesmen in implementation of the Mill safety programs and environmental policies.
• Liaises as required with union representatives and deal with contracting out issues.
• Sits on the Standing Committee, Apprenticeship Selection Committee, and Liaison Committees.
• Collaborate in the development of a knowledge sharing network with peers in othermills.

• Demonstrated ability to read standard blueprints, machine and process drawings.
• Can manage multiple priorities simultaneously and keep them progressing to completion.
• Working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Salary $150,000 - $170,000 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal parity).
