Correctional Services / Central North Correctional Centre Maintenance Department

If you're a proven maintenance leader who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments, the Central North Correctional Centre offers a unique opportunity to make a visible impact every day. As Maintenance Manager, you will lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of facility maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, renovation projects, and electronic security systems within a dynamic 24/7 operation. This is far more than a traditional maintenance role. You will oversee multiple priorities simultaneously, manage contractors and service providers, direct preventative maintenance programs, and ensure critical facility systems remain safe, compliant, and operational. Your ability to lead teams, make sound operational decisions, and manage competing demands will be essential to success.

This role is ideal for an experienced maintenance management professional from a large-scale manufacturing, production, industrial, logistics, institutional, or facilities environment who is looking for a challenging and rewarding leadership opportunity. Leading a dedicated team in a highly regulated setting, you will be responsible for staff development, budget oversight, project coordination, contractor management, and emergency response leadership. While technical knowledge of building systems and maintenance operations is important, strong management experience, leadership capability, and the ability to navigate a constantly evolving environment are what will set top candidates apart. Operational Requirement: The successful candidate must be available to provide after-hours phone support and attend the facility when required to address emergencies or critical operational issues. Regular weekend work is not typically required.

• Lead Maintenance & Facility Operations by planning, coordinating, and overseeing maintenance activities, building systems, electronic security infrastructure, waste management services, and facility improvements within a complex 24/7 environment.
• Manage Projects & Infrastructure Upgrades by overseeing renovation, construction, and capital improvement projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Supervise Staff & Contractors by providing leadership to maintenance employees, tradespeople, contractors, and service providers, while assigning work, monitoring performance, and fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
• Drive Preventative Maintenance Programs by establishing maintenance priorities, coordinating planned maintenance activities, and ensuring critical facility systems remain reliable, efficient, and operational.
• Ensure Safety, Compliance & Risk Management by promoting adherence to occupational health and safety requirements, conducting inspections, supporting emergency response activities, and ensuring regulatory and operational compliance.
• Oversee Budgets, Vendors & Resources by managing operational budgets, monitoring expenditures, administering service agreements, controlling inventories, and ensuring cost-effective use of tools, equipment, and facility resources.

Meet Your New Team

At Central North Correctional Centre, you'll join a dedicated Maintenance team that plays a critical role in supporting the safe, secure, and efficient operation of one of Ontario's largest correctional facilities, located in Penetanguishene. The team is responsible for maintaining complex building infrastructure, coordinating capital and renovation projects, overseeing contractors and service providers, and ensuring critical facility and security systems remain operational around the clock. This is a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly and no two days are the same. Working closely with maintenance staff, tradespeople, contractors, and institutional leaders, you'll have the opportunity to lead meaningful projects, solve complex operational challenges, and make a direct impact on the day-to-day operations of a unique and highly engaging facility.

Leadership & People Management

• Experience supervising maintenance, facilities, operations, or trades staff in a unionized or regulated environment.
• Proven ability to assign work, manage performance, and hold employees accountable for results.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing staff while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams through changing priorities, operational challenges, and emergency situations.

Maintenance & Facilities Management

• Experience managing facility maintenance operations within a large, complex, or fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of building systems, preventative maintenance programs, and asset lifecycle management.
• Experience establishing maintenance priorities and coordinating resources to minimize operational disruptions.
• Ability to identify and resolve facility-related issues while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of critical infrastructure.

Project, Contractor & Vendor Management

• Experience overseeing renovation, construction, infrastructure, or facilities improvement projects.
• Proven ability to coordinate and monitor the work of contractors, tradespeople, and external service providers.
• Experience reviewing blueprints, plans, specifications, and contractor work for quality and compliance.
• Ability to manage service agreements, monitor vendor performance, and ensure project deliverables are achieved on time and within budget.

Safety, Compliance & Financial Management

• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Experience maintaining compliance with safety standards, building codes, and operational policies.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, monitor expenditures, and effectively allocate resources.
• Experience tracking inventories, equipment replacement needs, and operational spending while maintaining fiscal accountability.
