Job summary

Darling International Canada Inc. in Moorefield, Ontario is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the safe, reliable operation of plant equipment and infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of maintenance leadership experience in manufacturing or food processing.
  • 3–5 years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing, food processing, or similar industrial environment.
  • A relevant trade certification (e.g., Millwright, Electrician) is required. A university degree in Engineering or a college diploma in a related technology discipline is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA, environmental regulations, CMMS, and maintenance best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and hold a team accountable.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; CMMS experience is an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and oversee capital projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; root-cause analysis experience.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and lead through change in a fast-paced environment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a full-time Maintenance Manager for our Moorefield, Ontario facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant equipment and infrastructure. The Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance team, oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and ensure adherence to all regulatory, environmental, and quality compliance requirements. As an active member of the Plant Operations Committee, you will contribute to plant strategy, capital planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Leadership & Development:
  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, and direction to the maintenance team.
  • Foster a positive, safety-focused, and collaborative work culture that promotes accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Manage team performance by conducting regular reviews, providing feedback, and partnering with Human Resources on training, succession planning, and employee relations.
  • Ensure effective departmental communication through daily meetings and shift handovers.
Maintenance Operations:
  • Develop and execute weekly and monthly maintenance schedules to optimize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and control costs.
  • Manage the preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including work order backlog and performance tracking, using the site's CMMS (e.g., Maintenance Connect).
  • Lead root-cause analysis on equipment failures to implement long-term corrective solutions.
  • Manage the spare parts inventory to ensure critical components are available.
Budgeting & Capital Projects:
  • Develop and manage the annual maintenance operating budget.
  • Prepare capital expenditure proposals and lead the execution of approved projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Oversee all contractor work to ensure compliance with site policies and safety requirements.
Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring all maintenance work complies with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant regulations (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, confined space).
  • Ensure maintenance activities support the facility's compliance with CFIA, HACCP, GMP, and environmental standards.
  • Lead safety-related work orders, participate in incident investigations, and support the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Additional related tasks as required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform essential job functions consistent with AODA, ESA, and OHSA standards.
  • Must be able to walk through plant areas multiple times daily, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work in various plant conditions, which may include hot, cold, noisy, odorous or wet environments.
WE OFFER:
  • Pay range: CA $110,000 - $130,000 annually. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range with final offers determined by the candidate's specific blend of experience, qualifications, and skillset. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations.
