Maintenance Manager
About Tyax Lodge:
Nestled in the remote South Chilcotin Mountains of British Columbia, Tyax Lodge & Heliskiing offers unforgettable wilderness experiences in a spectacular alpine setting. Our lodge provides premium accommodations and services to adventure seekers, including heli-skiing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, and more.
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, highly skilled Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance operations of our remote, wilderness luxury lodge. This is a critical leadership position responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and functionality of all facilities and infrastructure on-site.
This role requires extensive experience in remote property maintenance, technical expertise across multiple trades, and the ability to work independently in a wilderness environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily maintenance operations across lodge buildings, chalets, staff accommodations, and surrounding property.
  • Perform and supervise preventative and corrective maintenance in the areas of:
  • Electrical systems (troubleshooting, wiring, generators, control panels, motors, pumps, solar, etc.)
  • Plumbing and water systems (supply, waste, pumps, filtration)
  • Carpentry and general repairs (doors, windows, drywall, roofing, etc.)
  • Waste water treatment plant operations/maintenance
  • Potable water treatment plant operations
  • Operate small excavation vehicles including Bobcat and snow removal equipment as required.
  • Maintain heating systems including on demand propane-powered systems and gas appliances.
  • Perform or coordinate inspections, record-keeping, and compliance with safety codes and environmental regulations.
  • Lead seasonal openings/closings, manage winterization and weatherproofing processes.
  • Oversee contractors and external technicians as needed.
  • Respond to urgent issues and support 24/7 lodge operations when required.
  • Ensure tools, parts, and materials inventory is maintained.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in facility or hotel maintenance; at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Proven experience working in remote environments.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on skills in:
  • Electrical work
  • Plumbing systems
  • Carpentry and general construction
  • Landscaping and Irrigation
  • Elevating Work Platforms: CSA B354.8.17 Standard Compliance and ability to operate small excavation vehicles (e.g., skid steers, mini-excavators, manlift )
  • Valid gas/propane fitter certification an asset with a strong understanding of heating systems.
  • Valid Electrical FSR Certification type C an asset
  • Familiarity with wildfire prevention strategies and structure protection measures in wilderness settings.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to remain calm and resourceful under pressure.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License required; Class 4 or higher is an asset.
  • Comfortable working long hours during peak seasons and responding to facility related emergencies.
