The successful candidate will perform duties in maintenance, ice making, and custodial functions in a diverse recreational facility. This role may require seasonal work in the Parks Department and deployment to other duties as needed.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities
  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Valid Refrigeration Operator's Certificate or 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate recognized by TSBC
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent
  • Completion of RFABC's Arena Ice Maker and Building Service Worker I courses plus 1-3 years of related experience or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to operate building, grounds, and related equipment
  • Ability to identify and perform self-directed repairs (plumbing, carpentry, painting, fencing, concrete, power tools)
  • Experience with ice making, resurfacing, and arena equipment maintenance
  • Ability to work independently, recognizing liability and safety considerations
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and public relations skills
  • Knowledge of WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority regulations and safety procedures
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a satisfactory driver's abstract
  • Physical ability to perform all duties; medical certification may be required
Assets
  • Experience in electronic records management for arena systems and parks assets
  • Ability to repair irrigation and playground equipment
  • Knowledge of turf management and maintenance of cemetery and parks equipment
Additional Information

This is a unionized position (CUPE Local 358). Candidates will undergo skills, qualifications, and abilities evaluation, along with police and vulnerable sector checks.
