Job description

Sage Gardens of NYC is a landscape design, installation, and maintenance company based in Brooklyn, NY. We are seeking an enthusiastic, honest, and hard-working full-time employee to lead our maintenance crew. We are looking for a lead gardener who is passionate and knowledgeable about plant care and has a desire to grow their skills. The ideal candidate is collaborative, willing to learn, and meshes well with our team! We offer PTO, continuing education classes pertaining to role, and cell phone bill stipend.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Proven experience in landscape maintenance and landscaping techniques
  • Strong supervisory skills with a background in leading teams
  • Leads and manages maintenance crew, oversees maintenance crew members’ work, and teaches crew members horticultural practices and techniques
  • Tasks: loading vehicle for the day, loading in/out of sites, planting and arranging seasonal plantings, applying spring and fall fertilizations, identifying and assessing pests and diseases, pruning and thinning plant material based on season, training plant material, cleaning garden spaces, and adjusting irrigation system timers and trouble-shooting irrigation as needed
  • Communicates with managers noting any problems or issues that arise
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with and crew members about tasks at hand
  • Communicates courteously and warmly with clients
  • Maintains, cleans, and organizes tools and materials and takes inventory of maintenance tools and materials
  • Sends an end of the day reports to managers
  • Available to work some weekends
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Proven experience in landscape maintenance and landscaping techniques
  • Strong supervisory skills with a background in leading teams
  • 2+ year(s) of horticultural experience
  • 1+ year(s) as a lead gardener
  • Lead maintenance gardener must drive. Valid driver's license with clean record
  • Experience driving 14' box trucks a plus, no CDL required
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
  • Strong knowledge of plant care, plant ID, proper pruning, soil types etc.
  • Experience with gardening tools
  • Punctual, honest, detail-oriented, highly motivated, good time management skills
  • Willingness to learn and enjoys being a part of a team
