Job summary

Aspira Red Oak Retirement Living is seeking a Maintenance Assistant (Casual) to support a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for residents and staff. You will perform repairs and upkeep across the home, contributing to daily life quality and comfort.

Responsibilities include general maintenance tasks, floor care, and grounds upkeep, with focus on safety and resident well-being. Prior maintenance experience and good English communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Certification, training, and work experience in building repairs, painting, floor care, safety procedures, property maintenance, plumbing, heating and air conditioning.
• 1-2 years' experience in a similar maintenance role.
• Proven customer service skills and excellent English verbal/written communication.
• Sound knowledge of equipment operation and upkeep in a retirement residence.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit.
• Must pass Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario) and Criminal Records Check (British Columbia).
• Sienna Senior Living may use AI to screen applicants.

Responsibilities

• Clean, scrub, stripe and wax floors in hallways and common areas as instructed.
• Empty garbage and recycling, ensuring proper storage of materials.
• Maintain building exterior, grounds and parking areas.
• Remove snow and apply salt to ensure safety for residents and staff.
• Mow, water lawns and manage gardens; apply fertilizer as needed.
• Complete forms and write reports for follow-up and records.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

As a Maintenance Assistant, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for residents and staff. As an individual and part of a wider team, you will be a strong contributor to the culture of the home, where the focus is always on helping residents live fully, every day.

What makes you a great fit?

• Executing general repair and maintenance work including painting, plastering, basic plumbing (e.g. replacing faucets, unblocking toilets), woodworking (e.g. replacing moulding, installing doors, replacing doorframes) and electrical work (tasks that do not require an electrician's license, e.g. changing light bulbs)
• Cleaning, scrubbing, striping and waxing floors in the hallways, stairways, common areas, etc., as instructed, in order to maintain the premises in good condition
• Emptying out garbage and recycling receptacles at regular intervals in order to prevent waste from accumulating, and ensures recycling materials are stored properly
• Maintaining building exterior, grounds and parking lots
• Removing snow on sidewalks and doors and applies salt to ensure resident, visitor and team member safety
• Mowing and watering grass, tending to flower gardens and applies fertilizer as needed, to ensure the orderly appearance of the grounds
• Completing the appropriate forms and documents; writing required reports based on available information in order to ensure the necessary follow-up
• Performing other duties as assigned

What You Need To Know

• Certification, training, and work experience, including competencies, in: building repairs, painting and finishes, floor care, safety procedures, property maintenance, plumbing, heating and air conditioning
• 1-2 years' experience in a similar position
• Proven customer service skills and excellent command of verbal and written English language
• Sound knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in the residence
• Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit
