Job summary

A leading health care facility in Ontario is seeking a Maintenance Worker to ensure a safe and aesthetic environment. The successful candidate will operate building systems, respond to maintenance calls, and perform preventive maintenance. Ideal applicants will have at least three years of experience in facilities management, preferably in a health care setting, with knowledge of HVAC and safety systems.

Qualifications

  • Three years' experience in general maintenance.
  • Experience in long-term care or healthcare facility preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor building systems, including HVAC and fire safety.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and direct traffic.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks.

Skills

Knowledge of electrical distribution

Job description

Reporting to the Building Services Supervisor or designate at Mon Sheong Paul Woo Long Term Care Centre, the incumbent must maintain a comfortable, safe, and aesthetic environment for the residents, staff and visitors. All work will be carried out in accordance with health and safety guidelines and procedures to ensure the safety of residents and workers.

Main Duties:

  • Operate building systems, monitor and secure facility including furnishings; bathrooms, toilets, and drains; life safety system such as fire alarm system and fire suppression and protection systems; emergency exits, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; hot water boilers and circulation mechanism; emergency backup power generator and associated switching equipment; cooler, freezer, and kitchen equipment; telephone and cable systems; residents’ aiding equipment such as grab bars, walkers, lifters, wheelchairs, and nursing-call system; entrance, driveways, walkways, parking lots and the associated lighting, housekeeping cleaning equipment and laundry machine.
  • Respond to the maintenance work request and record the repairs.
  • Direct traffic in the parking lot during special events.
  • Record building systems operations information and report any unusual / alarm signals to Building Services Supervisor when performing regular inspections.
  • Maintain the maintenance workshop in good condition at all times.
  • Follow the Health and Safety regulations at all times.
  • Understand, observe, and practice all fire safety regulations and procedures.
  • Respond to all emergency calls.
  • Elevators will be maintained for use free from danger and risk.
  • Monitor and report inventory requirements to the Building Services Supervisor.
  • Room settings for specific events and functions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance duties as scheduled, including touch up of wall paints, equipment maintenance and inspection.
  • Provide equipment access to contractors when performing regular inspection and emergency repairs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Building Services Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in general maintenance and building operations and one of which should preferably be in long-term care or other health care facility.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with commercial building operations covering electrical distribution system; backup generator; heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC) system; life safety systems such as fire alarm system and fire suppression and protection systems.
  • Relevant training leading to Building Environmental System Operator Class I certificate or equivalent is a plus.
