Reporting to the Foreman, the Mainline Excavator Operator role involves the safe and efficient operation of an excavator to support utility installation. The operator will be responsible for executing tasks in accordance with contract specifications, ensuring high-quality work while adhering to safety standards. Duties may include excavation, trenching, and material handling as required.

How You’ll Add Value
  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Ensure trenches are excavated to the correct depth and grade
  • Ensure proper rigging of pipes, manhole barrels, and other materials, adhering to safe procedures during material lowering
  • Participate in the placement of water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipes in the excavation
  • Perform daily cleaning, maintenance, and safety checks on equipment
  • Conduct pre-operational checks, and clean, lubricate, and refill equipment as needed
  • Collaborate with ground personnel in the excavation and installation of pipes, ensuring proper line and grade
  • Minimize excavation time to maintain production schedule while cutting grade
  • Perform trench work in compliance with OH&S regulations
  • Understand and manage ground disturbance issues effectively
  • Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
  • Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a mainline excavator operator in heavy civil construction
  • Physically able to safely lift and carry 40 lbs
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
