About the job Mainframe Network Systems Programmer

Software International (SI) supplies technical talent to a variety of clients ranging from Fortune 100/500/1000 companies to small and mid-sized organizations in Canada/US. We currently have a 12 month renewable contract as aMainframe Network Systems Programmer with our large global infrastructure client. This could be an indefinite contract or move into a permanent role.

Role: Mainframe Network Systems Programmer

Type: Contract

Duration:12 months to start + possible extensions or move into a permanent role

Rate: $75 - $95/hr + C2C - depending on overall experience

Location: Remote, Canada

We are seeking a Mainframe Network Systems Programmer for a Host Network Support position. This role functions, in a global team providing services to a client with multi-protocol complex environments. The selected candidate will interact frequently with clients, vendors, and management to ensure high level of satisfaction. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as a resource and point of escalation for global team members.
  • Engaging in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems on zOS host networks.
  • Providing planning and recommendations for changes on hardware and software components for the zOS network.
  • Utilizing z/OS Communications Server and other products perform configuration and customization of IBM and ISV mainframe network software.
  • Supporting project management with implementation of network software upgrades, including testing and implementation with network service provider, application teams, and internal support teams.
  • Disaster Recovery, planning and execution of tests, including client access to DR systems during production network service.
  • Compliance and Security, ensure mainframe network environment complies with security rules agreed by Kyndryl and client.
  • Performing level 3 problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Can act in a leadership role for the global team on global projects and participate on teams that impact the host network.

Required Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • At least 5+ years' experience performing z/OS system support / programming, Host Network experience
  • Demonstrable skills in z/OS Network Systems Programming in a multi-LPAR Sysplex environment: Communication Server VTAM : SNA, APPN, Enterprise Extender, Subarea routing, Log mode tables.
  • Network Monitoring: (One or more) NetView, CA-NetMaster, OMEGAMON for Networks.
  • File Transfer (Two or more): Connect:Direct, CA-XCOM, ftp(s), SFTP, NetView FTP, Co:Z, Tectia.
  • Session managers (one or more): CA-TPX, CL-Supersession, NetView Access Services, Teleview, VTAM/Switch.
  • Print products: CA-Spool, IBM Infoprint, VPS.
  • Diagnostic skills are a must, including the ability to interpret job and task logs, syslogs, and traces.
  • Ability to train and coach junior team members and build proficient network skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and accounts.

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • Experience with REXX, CList, or NCL scripting language is a plus.
  • Experience with z/VM, RSCS, and Vswitch is a plus.
