Job summary

DXC Technology Canada is seeking an experienced Mainframe CICS / MQ Engineer to support and maintain enterprise CICS and MQ environments on z/OS. The role focuses on CICS system programming with hands-on MQ administration, ensuring stability, performance, and security of mission-critical systems.

You will build, configure, upgrade, and support CICS regions, manage MQ subsystems, troubleshoot complex issues, and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation in a regulated, audit-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with CICS Transaction Server on z/OS.
  • Working experience with IBM MQSeries / IBM MQ on z/OS.
  • MVS tools: TSO/ISPF, JCL, SDSF, IBM VSAM utilities.
  • Exposure to RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.
  • Disaster Recovery experience (backup, restore, DR drills).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, upgrade, and support CICS Transaction Server regions.
  • Apply strong knowledge of CICS internals, storage protection, transaction isolation, and RENTPGM.
  • Support CICS inter‑region communication (MRO, ISC).
  • Install and support vendor products running within CICS.
  • Perform troubleshooting, service restoration, and root‑cause analysis.
  • Support Disaster Recovery planning, testing, and execution.
  • Maintain IBM MQ subsystems, JCL, page sets, channels, buffer pools, and security.
  • Install, upgrade, and apply PTFs/HIPERs for MQ environments.
  • Support MQ security, audits, and distributed queue management.
  • Participate in 24x7 on‑call rotation.
  • Follow change management and audit processes.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe CICS / MQ Engineer to support and maintain enterprise CICS and MQ environments on z/OS. This role focuses primarily on CICS system programming, with strong hands‑on responsibility for IBM MQ subsystems, and is critical to ensuring the stability, performance, and security of mission‑critical transaction processing systems. In this position, you will be responsible for building, configuring, upgrading, and supporting CICS Transaction Server regions, while applying deep knowledge of CICS internals, storage protection, and transaction isolation. You will also maintain IBM MQ subsystems, troubleshoot complex issues, and support disaster recovery activities to ensure business continuity. This role requires a proactive engineer who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and participate in a 24x7 on‑call rotation (rotating every 2‑3 weeks) to support enterprise‑critical infrastructure within a regulated, audit‑driven environment.

Essential Job Functions

Basic Qualifications
  • Strong experience with CICS Transaction Server on z/OS
  • Working experience with IBM MQSeries / IBM MQ on z/OS

  • Exposure to RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret
  • Disaster Recovery experience (backup, restore, DR drills)

Other Qualifications
  • IBM Assembler familiarity (reading code/dumps/exits)
  • Experience in large enterprise or regulated environments

A reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position is $80,100 - $130,100. Full‑time hires are eligible to participate in the DXC benefit program.
