Job summary

Acuren is seeking an Apprentice Machinist in Calgary, AB to join the sour gas corrosion testing lab. You will work in a machine shop producing NACE specimens from oil and gas tubular products.

Location is Calgary, AB with full-time, permanent employment. The role offers a robust training path, operating band saws, CNC lathes, mills, and precision measurement tools in a busy shop environment.

Qualifications

  • Indentured Machinist Apprentice.
  • Completion of a CNC machining course.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiar with CNC and manual machines.
  • Experience with AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
  • Good communication skills with a willingness to learn under the current machinist lead.
  • Ability to execute verbal and written work directions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate band saws, cut off saws, surface grinders.
  • Operate CNC lathes and mills.
  • Hand polishing/grinding test samples.
  • Use precision measuring equipment for quality control.
  • Perform regular shop cleaning, inspections and basic maintenance.

Acuren is currently recruiting an Apprentice Machinist to join our team and support the sour gas corrosion testing lab in Calgary, AB. The finished products produced by our machine shop are primarily NACE corrosion test specimens machined from oil and gas tubular products.

Position Summary
  • Location: Calgary, AB
  • Position Type: Full-time, permanent
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday (may vary based on operational requirements)
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications and experience
Responsibilities
  • Operate band saws, cut off saws, surface grinders
  • Operate CNC lathes and mills
  • Hand polishing/grinding test samples
  • Use precision measuring equipment for quality control

Working Conditions
  • Indoor machine shop environment or industrial settings where heavy machinery is used
  • Environment can be noisy, with constant sounds of machines operating
  • Frequent mental effort for measuring, testing, adjusting, and problem solving
  • Occasional interruptions and may receive basic requests for assistance
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous machinery, sharp tools, and equipment. Use of PPE required.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS & DEMANDS
  • Frequent periods of standing and periods of concentration.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying materials, tools, and equipment of up to 50 lbs
  • Occasional mobility such as reaching, kneeling/crawling, bending/crouching
  • Frequent use of hand dexterity to operate tools and measure parts
