Ideal candidates have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and are willing to start a Machinist apprenticeship; prior labourer or shop experience is an asset, as are basic tool-handling skills.

Job description

Acuren is currently recruiting for a Skilled Labourer to join our team and support the sour gas corrosion testing lab in Calgary, AB. The finished products produced by our machine shop are primarily NACE corrosion test specimens machined from oil and gas tubular products.

Under the direction of the Machinist Foreman, the Labourer supports machinists by preparing and moving materials, assisting with machine setup, cleaning and organizing tools and work areas, and helping prepare test coupons, samples and components. All duties are performed in accordance with Acuren’s standard operating procedures and process maps.

Position Summary
  • Location: Calgary, AB
  • Position Type: Full-time, permanent
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday - 40 Hours per week (may vary based on operational requirements)
Responsibilities
  • Assist machinists with material preparation, machine setup and daily shop tasks.
  • Load, unload and move materials, tools and components safely.
  • Measure, mark and prepare materials for cutting or machining under supervision.
  • Assist with preparing, labelling and organizing test coupons, samples and finished components.
  • Perform basic deburring, cleaning and finishing tasks as trained and directed.
  • Clean and organize work areas, tools and equipment.
  • Follow Acuren’s safety procedures, standard operating procedures and process maps.
  • Report equipment concerns, hazards and material shortages to the Machinist Foreman.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Willingness to start a Machinist apprenticeship preferred.
  • Previous labourer, manufacturing or machine shop experience is an asset.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely and read a tape measure.
  • Ability to follow instructions and assist with material preparation and shop tasks.
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving materials and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to safety and willingness to learn.
  • Reliable team player with good communication skills.
  • Good communication skills with a willingness to learn under the current machinist lead
  • Ability to execute verbal and written work directions
