Position: Machinist

Job Purpose:

To clean and repair plastic injection molds, fixtures, and machines to ensure proper functioning and support production. Responsibilities include planning, layout, setup, operation, and adjustments of manual, CNC, and computerized machine shop equipment, working from blueprints, process sheets, and sketches. The role involves cutting and shaping metal to precise dimensions, communicating with toolmakers and engineers, inspecting machining operations, and repairing minor machine malfunctions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform repairs and modifications on plastic injection molding tools and fixtures.
2. Read and interpret 2D drawings, 3D models, and sketches.
3. Set up and operate machine tools and equipment using hand tools and precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
4. Create ejector and core pins per drawings, clean and polish mold cavities, and perform preventative maintenance on tooling.
5. Remove stuck parts, repair tools, and make minor repairs on the bench or molding machines.
6. Accurately record material usage and time for tracking and data purposes.
7. Occasionally perform TIG welding, oxy-acetylene repairs, and hydraulic cylinder part replacements.
8. Manufacture replacement machine parts from 2D prints or sketches.
9. Assist toolmakers, automation, and maintenance departments as needed.

Qualifications:

Preferably a 2-year degree in Machine Tool Technology and at least 2 years of relevant experience in the trade.
