AtkinsRéalis in Canada is seeking a Machinist Co-op Student to gain hands-on experience in subtractive manufacturing. You will work with licensed machinists and CNC programmers to bridge classroom theory with precision production.

The role emphasizes machine setup, quality inspection, blueprint reading and shop maintenance, with a day shift Monday to Friday. Enroll in an accredited machining program and bring basic math, GD&T understanding and PPE readiness.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited machining program (e.g., Mechanical Technician - General Machinist, Tool & Die, or related CNC programming).
• Basic shop math skills and understanding of speeds, feeds, and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Machine Setup & Operation: assist in setting up and operating manual and introductory CNC machines.
• Quality Inspection: use calipers, micrometers, and indicators to verify tolerances.
• Blueprint Reading: read and interpret drawings and GD&T.
• Part Finishing: deburr, clean, and prepare parts for QC sign-off.
• Shop Maintenance: follow safety protocols, clean machinery, manage coolant levels, organize tooling.

Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Machinist Co-op Student. In this role, you will work closely with our experienced licensed machinists and CNC programmers to gain practical, real-world experience in subtractive manufacturing. You will bridge the gap between classroom theory and precision production.

Shift: Day Shift, Monday to Friday

Your Role

• Machine Setup & Operation: Assist in setting up and operating manual machines (lathes, mills, drill presses) and introductory CNC machinery.
• Quality Inspection: Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, verniers, and indicators) to inspect finished parts against design tolerances.
• Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret technical engineering drawings, blueprints, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Part Finishing: Deburr, clean, and prepare machined parts for quality control sign-off.
• Shop Maintenance: Adhere to all safety protocols, clean machinery, manage coolant levels, and organize tooling.

About You

• Current Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited program focusing on Machining (e.g., Mechanical Technician - General Machinist, Tool & Die, or related CNC programming programs).
• Technical Foundations: Basic shop math skills and a foundational understanding of cutting speeds, feeds, and tooling.
• Software Awareness: Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks) is considered an asset.
• Safety Mindset: Hardworking, punctual, and strictly committed to wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like steel-toed boots and safety glasses.
