Duration: 8 months

Openings: 1 position

Salary Range: $3,650 - $4,100 CAD per month

By joining the Kardium team you can help make a difference in the lives of millions around the world. Kardium is developing a ground-breaking medical device for diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, a heart condition that can cause strokes, heart failure, and other heart-related complications.

To help commercialize the Globe System, we have a fully equipped, rapid-prototyping machine shop, which is regularly used by both our design engineers and staff machinist. It includes three 3 ½ axis CNC milling machines, 2 CNC lathes, 2 manual milling machines, various sheet metal forming tools, a surface grinder, a heat treatment oven, finishing tools such as a sand blaster, an electropolisher and tumblers, as well as a wide array of hand tools.

What you’ll be doing

The successful candidate will be involved in machining of components and assemblies used for manufacturing and testing of medical devices. The student will receive solid models and/or drawings from R&D engineers and, with the guidance and supervision of the senior machinist, use in-house equipment to manufacture parts to specifications.

The student will also be required to participate in shop organization, tool and material restocking, machine repair and maintenance, and upkeep of a safe and efficient work environment.

You are suited to our approach and possess these attributes:

  • Have solid knowledge of machine tool operation
  • Have prior experience with operating manual milling and turning machines
  • Be highly organized
  • Be highly proactive and able to execute tasks with minimal instruction and guidance
  • Be enthusiastic about finding innovative solutions to unforeseen challenges
  • Have a history of success working in a team setting

The following factors are preferred but not required:

  • Ability to perform light mechanical assembly
  • Prior experience with Fanuc and Haas CNC machine interface
  • Willingness to adjust one’s schedule to earlier start or later finish times to accommodate machine availability.
  • Have knowledge of CAD.
  • Have knowledge of CAM.
