Job summary

Fabertechnologies Calgary seeks a Machining Shop Supervisor to lead CNC lathes/mills, guide a hands-on team, and ensure quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery of low-volume parts for oil/gas and heavy construction sectors.

You will train new machinists, coordinate daily tasks, and ensure safe, efficient shop operations, with a focus on diverse metal components and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Lead Hand, Foreman, or Supervisor in a machining shop.
  • CNC Journeyman Machinist red seal.
  • Strong experience operating CNC lathes and/or CNC mills (both a plus).
  • Experience with Okuma and/or Haas equipment (asset).
  • Experience machining low-volume, custom components for oil/gas or heavy construction clients.
  • Machining with steel and other metals.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Guide team members in operation of CNC lathes and/or CNC mills, ensuring accurate cutting and quality adherence.
  • Assign daily tasks to machinists, coordinate sequencing, and track progress.
  • Support in hiring and training new team members.
  • Assist in reading and interpreting drawings and fabrication layouts.
  • Setup CNC machines, report maintenance needs, perform routine maintenance.
  • Operate machines as needed and mentor shop staff.
  • Ensure safety and on-time completion of work.
  • Maintain a clean, organized machine shop.

Job description

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Machining Shop Supervisor to join their CNC shop team. This position will lead the Shop team, providing hands-on guidance and support for team members operating CNC lathes and/or mills to produce a wide variety of custom parts and products. You would support the production of a wide range of low-volume parts for the oil/gas and heavy construction industries, and would be relied on to train new team members, ensure machine setups are done correctly, work is completed to quality and accuracy standards, and within expected schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Guide team members in operation of CNC lathes and/or CNC mills, ensuring accurate cutting of metal components and adherence to quality standards
  • Assign daily tasks to machinists, coordinate sequencing, and track progress
  • Support in hiring and training new team members
  • Assist team members in reading and interpreting drawings and fabrication layouts
  • Setup CNC machines, report any required maintenance or repairs, perform routine maintenance
  • Operate machines as needed, providing hands-on mentorship within the shop
  • Work alongside the shop team and manager to ensure all work is completed safely and within scheduled timelines
  • Maintain a clean, organized machine shop
Skills and Requirements
  • Experience as a Lead Hand, Foreman, or Supervisor at a machining shop
  • CNC Journeyman Machinist red seal
  • Strong experience operating a CNC lathe and/or CNC mill (experience with both is a plus)
  • Experience operating Okuma and/or Haas equipment (strong asset, not mandatory)
  • Experience producing custom, low-volume, machined components for oil/gas or heavy construction clients
  • Experience machining primarily with steel and other metals
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Ability to find quick solutions and implement them proactively as problems arise day-to-day
