Job description

LOCATION: HK - Toronto

SHIFT: Night Shift 11PM – 7AM Monday to Friday

SUMMARY

Splicing is the production process utilizing heated moulds to join the ends of pre-cut rubber strips to form circular gaskets.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Maintain working area is safe & clean before starting work
2. Ensure mould temperature has reached its setting prior to splicing
3. Perform tasks to prepare strip for splicing as required, e.g., dipping, sanding, heating, cleaning strip ends, etc.
4. Verify rubber strip for straight cut and clean ends prior to splicing
5. Load tape roll into tape machine and visually check quality
6. Load gasket into press
7. Insert splicing tape between the ends of gaskets (as required)
8. Close mold; auto timer will open once cure time is up
9. Remove gasket & remove flashing
10. Visually inspect gasket for cracks at splice, nibs, lumps, pinholes, and other defects
11. Inject silicone into gasket
12. Break splice seal using pneumatic anvil
13. Place the gasket on the silicone spreader & check for leaks
14. Pack finished gaskets
15. Verify the proper amount of gaskets are put into each box
16. Document and record all required information
17. Perform other duties as required by supervision to meet production requirements.
18. Must be able to meet and maintain company quality and production requirements
19. Adhere to company policies and procedures

CONTACTS

1. Interacts on a daily basis with Shift Supervisor, Lead Hand and Q.A. Inspector
2. Occasional interaction with Production Manager, Operational Excellence Team, Health & Safety Manager, Plant Manager and other departments as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Incumbent spends almost 100% of his/her time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of light physical labour. Lifting, pulling (less than 15 lbs.), standing and walking cover the majority of the work. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, and the use of light press equipment
2. Incumbent understands, respects and adheres to the workplace Health & Safety rules & regulations which are derived from the Occupational Health & Safety Act

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must possess excellent attention to detail and strong critical thinking abilities.
2. Safety conscious
3. High school diploma is preferred
4. Read, write and speak basic English
5. Must be able to use or can be trained on various types of measuring tools related to our gasket manufacturing process.

HOURLY RATE: $22.85 + shift premium of 5% of the employee’s regular rate for each hour worked on this shift

SHIFT PREMIUM: 5% of the employee’s regular rate for each hour worked on this shift.
