Job summary

Ocean Steel in New Brunswick is seeking skilled fabrication helpers to read blueprints, operate fabrication equipment, and assist with material handling. The role requires basic schooling and a safety mindset. You will work with overhead cranes, learn to manage tools, and support production teams in a dynamic steel shop environment.

Experience in steel fabrication is valued, and flexibility for night shifts is expected as production cycles continue around the clock.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • 1-3 years experience in steel fabrication is an asset.
  • Completion of high school.
  • CSA approved steel toe boots required.
  • Flexibility to work night shift on rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Operate band saws, CNC punches, shears, CNC drill and burning machines.
  • Lift or move steel materials into position using overhead cranes.
  • Clean and maintain work space.

Although they specialize in fabricating and erecting structural steel for buildings and bridges, they also manufacture and install platework, such as breechings, stacks, ducts, penstocks, process & storage tanks and custom process-equipment. Ocean Steel’s two New Brunswick plants include the original location in Saint John, as well as the York Steel Plant in Fredericton, which was acquired by Ocean Steel in 1995.

  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Operation of the steel fabrication equipment: band saws, CNC punches, shears, CNC drill and burning machines
