Join the Affirm team as a Machine Learning Engineer and contribute to the success of our ML Underwriting team. We leverage cutting-edge machine learning to assess creditworthiness throughout the loan application process. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will develop high-quality, production-ready models central to our decision-making, shaping our financial landscape. What you'll do

• Develop machine learning models using proprietary and third-party data to predict default likelihood and inform approval decisions.
• Collaborate with platform and product engineering teams on model training, decision systems, and monitoring.
• Research innovative solutions and develop prototypes to advance credit decisioning.
• Implement and scale data pipelines, features, and algorithms for production models.
• Work with engineering, credit, and product teams to define new product requirements.

What we look for

• Proficiency in machine learning techniques such as GLMs, Gradient Boosting, Deep Learning, and Probabilistic Calibration; credit risk domain knowledge is a plus.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Experience with distributed systems like Spark or Ray is a plus.
• Experience with open-source tools such as scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, XGBoost, Kubeflow is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to present technical concepts clearly and effectively.
• Persistence, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility to build trustworthy decision-making systems.

Pay Grade - J

Equity Grade - CAN 4

Base pay ranges from $102,000 to $142,000 annually, with potential benefits including stipends, health coverage, and equity rewards. Affirm is a remote-first company, allowing you to work almost anywhere within the country, with some roles requiring occasional office presence.
