Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides nursing care within the scope of licensure for assigned patients according to established nursing standards and hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

1. Administers medication, performs treatments, and patient care responsibilities as prescribed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
2. Consults with and keeps the Registered Nurse informed of activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient’s condition.
3. Provides appropriate pain management techniques and educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
4. Administers medication following the five rights of medication administration within scope of practice.
5. Assists with rehabilitation and treatment of patients according to the medical plan of care, updating and revising the plan under the RN’s supervision.
6. Assists physicians with examinations, treatments, and procedures, performing services requiring technical and manual skills as directed.
7. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
8. Interacts professionally with patients and families, involving them in the care plan.
9. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs and communicates with Social Services/Discharge Planner regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
10. Interprets patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
11. Performs all patient care aspects in an environment that ensures safety and reduces errors.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

1. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and condition.
2. Basic computer skills.
3. Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, prioritize, and perform under stress.
4. Good working relationships within and across departments.
5. Good and regular attendance.
6. Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
7. Travel requirement: 0%.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$23.87 - $32.13 per hour

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited program for licensed vocational/practical nurses.

Licenses/Certifications

• Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse License.
• BLS Certification required.
• IV Therapy and Blood Certifications preferred.
• ACLS may be required in certain care areas.

Experience

• Minimum six months’ prior experience in an acute care setting preferred.
