Job description

This posting is open to WRDSB employees who are members of the EA Association as well as external applicants.

All LTO assignments are subject to a revised end date with 2-weeks notice.

Qualifications/Requirements:

A condition of employment as an EA/CYW with the Waterloo Region District School Board requires that one must pass a Physical Demands test. All job offers will be conditional on the candidate passing all components of this test. This applies to any EA/CYW that does not already have Permanent/LTO level D hours.

Educational Assistant Qualifications:

  • EA Diploma
  • Equivalent college or university degree in a Child Related field (certified teacher, Developmental Services Worker, Bachelor of Social Work, Social Services Diploma) along with experience working with children.
  • Minimum six (6) month diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in a child-related discipline and a minimum of one (1) year of related work experience (1224 hours) preferably directly supporting children with special needs and deemed equivalent by the Board.
  • Minimum six (6) month certificate from an accredited educational institution in a child-related discipline and a minimum of one (1) year of related work experience (1224 hours) preferably directly supporting children with special needs and deemed equivalent by the Board.
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution that is complementary to supporting children with special needs as solely determined by the Board and a minimum of one (1) year of related work experience (1224 hours) preferably directly supporting children with special needs and deemed equivalent by the Board.

Assets:

  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification.
  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training.
  • Lifting/Positioning Training.

Under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, S.O. 2014, c. 11, Sched. 1 Ontario Regulation 137/15 for staff screening and police record checks;

Employees [DECEs, EAs, CYWs] working in licensed child care programs are required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check issued by a Police Service on or before every fifth anniversary after the date of the most recent vulnerable sector check. In addition, employees are required to complete an annual offence declaration (annually recorded through the WRDSB staff portal). Educators working in Before and After School Programs are required to complete a request for VSC through your local police service [available online] and submit your original electronic copy to care-staff@wrdsb.ca for review.

Employees are required to have a valid first aid and CPR certificate and/or be registered to update their training within the year.
