Job summary

BC Public Service in British Columbia is seeking an LSO 3 Designated Professional Engineer to provide seasoned engineering services for resource road, bridge, and related infrastructure programs.

Reporting to an LSO 5 Engineer, you will deliver advanced design guidance, review complex designs, and advise partners to meet regulatory and safety standards. Flexible work options available; location-based in Kamloops or Williams Lake with up to two days at home per week.

Qualifications

• Must be registered, or eligible, as a fully licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
• Degree in Civil/Forest engineering or equivalent as recognized by EGBC.
• Five or more years of recent experience in infrastructure planning, design and/or construction projects.
• Experience in project management of infrastructure planning, design and/or construction projects.
• Field experience monitoring engineering practices and contract compliance.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent).

Job Summary

The Team

The Engineering Branch provides leadership and professional guidance in the delivery of the Ministry's Engineering Program. This is achieved through the development of policies and standards, as well as by providing professional expertise to help ensure a safe provincial resource road network that balances industrial, commercial, and public use while considering available resources and minimizing environmental impacts. The Branch is divided into five groups: the Coast Area, North Area, South Area, Standards and Policy, and Finance and Management. The Branch is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the Engineering Program by ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, government policies, engineering standards, agreements, and operational plans, while supporting provincial priorities and sound financial management.

The Role

This role provides seasoned professional engineering services in support of resource road, bridge, and related infrastructure programs. Reporting to an LSO 5 Designated Professional Engineer, the Area Engineer delivers advanced design expertise, authoritative technical judgement, and guidance across planning, design, and implementation activities. The Area Engineer applies extensive experience to ensure public and worker safety, regulatory compliance, and high quality engineering solutions. Responsibilities include developing and reviewing complex designs, advising program and project partners and stakeholders, supporting provincial standards development, and acting as the qualified registered professional responsible for engineering deliverables.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Registration (applications will be screened on the following):

• Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
• Degree in Civil/Forest engineering or equivalent as recognized by EGBC.
• Five (5) or more years of recent (within the last seven (7) years), related engineering experience in infrastructure planning, design and/or construction projects.
• Related engineering experience in project management of infrastructure planning, design and/or construction projects.
• Field experience monitoring engineering practices and contract compliance.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent) or ability to obtain one immediately.

Preference may be given to those with the following:

• Five (5) or more years recent (within the last 7 years) engineering experience related to the Natural Resource Sector. Further preference may be given for more years of experience in this area.

Currently there is 1 permanent, full-time position available. This position can be based out of Kamloops or Williams Lake. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
