Qualifications

New Westminster Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health Network, is hiring for an experienced LPN- Pre & Post Operative - Full Time Position.

Pay Range: $36.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Position Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of a health care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of surgical patients. The LPN is responsible and accountable to the public for his/her own practice, according to the standards defined by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals. The LPN provides care to patients whose health condition and needs are well defined and established, predictable with little fluctuation over time, and localized and manageable. The LPN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care of patients and works in consultation with RN colleagues. In addition, the LPN maintains competent practice and provides care according to the Licensed Practical Nurses Professional Regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Admit and prepare patients for their preoperative experience.
  • Observe, assess, monitor, and document patient condition, reactions, and progress post-operative.
  • Administer medications.
  • Provide education and information to patients and families at the time of discharge.
  • Maintain a safe workspace to provide safe patient care.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, within the scope of practice, including clinical judgement, problem-solving skills, and strong decision-making ability.
  • Professional and mature manner.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced preoperative suite with a team of disciplines.
  • Strong team-building skills and able to maintain professional relationships.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and flexibility to adjust to workload as assigned.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Required assessment and post-operative teaching skills.

Experience:

  • Acute hospital experience required.
  • Previous pre-and-post-operative surgical patient care experience is an asset.

Formal Education:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse eligible for registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
