Job Purpose:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides essential nursing care to clients in various clinical and community settings, including rural and remote First Nations communities. Working under the direction of registered nurses and other healthcare providers, the LPN supports patient care through personal care, medication administration, and patient education, while promoting safety, comfort, and cultural sensitivity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist clients with personal care activities (bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility)
  • Administer medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions
  • Support patient education and health promotion under supervision
  • Monitor and report changes in patient conditions to supervising nurses or physicians
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care provided and patient responses
  • Work closely with RNs, physicians, and allied health professionals as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Participate in care planning, case conferencing, and team discussions
  • Ensure care is delivered in a culturally safe and respectful manner

Work Settings:

  • BC Health Authorities: Interior Health, Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, Island Health, Northern Health, and PHSA
Geographic Coverage:

Opportunities across all FNHA operational sites and BC Health Authorities, including urban, rural, and remote locations.

Qualifications:
  • Licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in British Columbia
  • Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Two professional references
  • Up-to-date immunization records
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 18 months of nursing experience for Health Care Organization (HCO) placements
  • Minimum 24 months of experience required for FNHA assignments
