Salary Range: $71,846-$115,129 Placement on the faculty salary scale is based on education, professional certification and experience and will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

The faculty member in this position is responsible for providing leadership and administration for the LPN – BSPN Access program. The faculty member in this position has:

  • the responsibility to seek collegial decisions;
  • the authority to act on emergency issues requiring a decision, pending collegial resolution of the issue;
  • the responsibility to implement collegial decisions.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Organizes and chairs LPN - BSPN Access program team meetings and ensures that action items are followed up.
  • Advise applicants in relation to academic and program requirements for admission to LPN - BSPN Access program
  • Leads LPN - BSPN Access Program information sessions
  • Liaises with Student and Staffing Coordinator related to LPN - BSPN Access student progression and graduation.
  • Coordinates input to the LPN - BSPN Access timetable, Education plan and staffing plan with Staffing and Student Coordinator.
  • Coordinates and provides orientation for LPN - BSPN Access students in collaboration with faculty team members.
  • Supports LPN - BSPN Access students and refers as necessary to appropriate Douglas College resources.
  • Supports LPN - BSPN Access students with access to educational resources.
  • Creates and sustains a learning community using a variety of communication resources (online)
  • Assists LPN - BSPN Access faculty with the interpretation and implementation of DOPN Requirements/Protocols and College Policies.
  • Orients and coordinates mentorship for new faculty to LPN - BSPN Access/team responsibilities and provides ongoing faculty support throughout the semester.
  • Supports and advises faculty concerning teaching responsibilities and student issues. Refers student issues to appropriate departmental or faculty roles as required
  • Mentors and advises faculty regarding issues related to student achievement, assessment processes, clinical evaluations and learning contracts.
  • Assists in the resolution of student issues at the team level consistent with the DOPN Communication and resolution process guidelines.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and participates in LPN–BSPN Access team operations.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the Program Coordinator, Curriculum and Student and Staffing Coordinators and provides input regarding semester operational and curriculum issues.
  • Provides BCCNM with a list of graduating students.
  • Coordinates projects that may arise.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Operational Functions

  • Coordinates the distribution and signing of any required program documents for LPN - BSPN Access students.
  • Liaises with Student and Staffing Coordinator to support instructors providing accommodations to students through Accessibility Services.
  • Coordinates identification of courses for course evaluation activities with the Associate Dean for the LPN - BSPN Access program.
  • Develops group lists for any required LPN - BSPN Access classes and distributes them to the faculty team and students.
  • Monitors and follows up regarding currency of student clinical requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Practice Placement Coordinator regarding preceptorship placement.
  • Collects and reviews final clinical evaluations before filing.
  • Coordinates the development and maintenance of the forward-facing LPN - BSPN Access Program information including student recruitment information, and assists DC MCO with advertising to external stakeholders and agencies.
  • Liaises closely with the Enrolment Services and the Faculty Program Support & Services Specialist to ensure that courses are open for registration and that faculty have access to their courses.
  • Participates in the long-range plans for program development, ensuring they are consistent with Douglas College policies and the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Professional Standards, Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice and entry-level competencies.

Some travel may be required to assess potential preceptorship placement sites.

To be successful in this role:

  • Current RPN /RN registration in good standing with BCCNM. Qualified RPN candidates will be given preference.
  • Master’s Degree required, Doctorate/PhD preferred. Qualified candidates with a Master’s in Psychiatric Nursing or closely related mental health discipline will be given preference.
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of recent post-secondary (or equivalent) teaching experience in psychiatric nursing, including both classroom and clinical practice areas.
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of clinical experience. Qualified applicants with experience in mental health practice will be given preference.
  • Demonstrated leadership competence.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated effective positive interpersonal and networking skills, including teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and humility in the context of education and psychiatric nursing practice.
  • Understanding LPN to BSPN competency development and progression.
  • Knowledge of all program streams of Douglas College Psychiatric Nursing Programs.
  • Demonstrated self-direction, motivation, initiative and creativity.
  • Represents the values, goals, and philosophy of the Psychiatric Nursing Department, Health Sciences, and Douglas College.

Additional Information

The Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking a Coordinator for the LPN - BSPN Access program in the department of Psychiatric Nursing. This position takes effect September 1, 2025 for an initial one year term with the possibility of an extension(s) up to a maximum of three years. This role has five (5) sections of time release available for the 2025-2026 academic year.
