Job description

Title: LPD Dispatcher

Start Date: May 2025

Term: On-call

Accountable to: Chief of Police

Summary of Function:

The Dispatcher, under the direction of the Chief of Police, provides administrative support services for the Listuguj Police Directorate. This includes serving as a dispatcher and performing other related duties as required.

Job Duties:

  1. Receiving telephone calls requiring police intervention, obtaining essential information, and maintaining a log of each call, including assignment details.
  2. Processing and transmitting information and instructions to coordinate police activities.
  3. Receiving requests for emergency assistance and contacting appropriate services.
  4. Dispatching personnel according to schedules, work orders, or emergency situations.
  5. Taking notes from police officers and transcribing them into proper formats for memoranda and reports.
  6. Advising police staff of route and traffic issues such as construction, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and restrictions.
  7. Operating radio equipment and other remote communication devices.
  8. Maintaining forms and files related to reports, occurrences, and activity sheets.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Dispatcher training course required.
  • Oath of office.
  • Good knowledge of computers and relevant software.
  • Good communication skills and accuracy in spelling.
  • Ability to type and operate Dictaphone equipment.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background and Vulnerable Sector check.
