A leading visual effects studio in Metro Vancouver is seeking an Intermediate Look Development Artist. This role involves creating and refining materials for 3D assets, collaborating with various departments, and solving shading and texturing challenges. What you'll be doing
As an Intermediate Look Development Artist, you will build upon a foundation of 3-5 years ofindustry experience. This role entails creating and refining materials for characters, environments,and props, ensuring consistency and adherence to the established art direction. Collaboration withvarious departments, problem-solving related to shading and texturing challenges, andcontributing to the evolution of the look development process are key responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
● Work with other asset departments to create realistic or stylised looks for 3D assets ofvarious styles and complexities
● Collaborate with Texture artists to achieve the desired look
● Follow the project's art direction and style guides, and contribute your own ideas andsuggestions
● Deliver high-quality work on time and participate in reviews
● Communicate effectively with team members and proactively bring up suggestions andissues
● Address feedback notes and take initiative to improve the work both artistically andtechnically
● Ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency of assets in varying lighting scenarios
● Maintain references and use proper colorspace workflows
● Solve problems and assist other artists with technical issues
● Work within the show's framework, structure, and pipeline, and propose new ways toimprove the work and workflow
● Optimize scenes to run efficiently, and create simple variation and instancing setups
What we need to see
● A portfolio that showcases strong artistic skills and technical abilities
● Solid understanding of shading, lighting, and rendering techniques
● Proficient in look development software like Katana, Maya, Arnold, or other renderingsoftware
● Intermediate lighting and general compositing experience a plus
● Proficient knowledge of Linux/UNIX and basic shell scripting, with knowledge of Pythonbeing a plus
● Working knowledge of paint software such as Mari, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Mudbox,ZBrush, and Substance Designer
● Good understanding of colorspace workflows
● Strong problem solving, organization, communication, and teamwork skills
● 3-4+ years of production experience
The anticipated base salary for this position is $37.50 - $53.80/hr. Benefits are per company policy: which include healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSP's, Sick and Vacation leave, standard increases as applicable. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
Please note that you must be able to provide a demo reel that illustrates your relevant artistic and technical experience that also includes the nuances for this specific role.
