Job Description
The Logistics and Transport Manager will be under the supervision of the VP of Operational Strategy. This role will be responsible for shipping, receiving, material handling and the various associated warehouses. The Manager will possess a strong understanding of cross-border logistics, warehouse management best practices, and the ability to implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Role And Responsibilities
- Team Management and Coordination:Managing and coordinating daily operations of logistics departments (shipping, receiving and warehousing) and managing the employee performance shipping, receiving and material handling teams.
- Customer Service:Ensures customer service and on time deliveries for internal and external stakeholders
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement logistics and warehousing strategies aligned with the company’s overall business objectives and growth plans across all North American locations.
- Warehouse Management:Oversee the operations of all company warehouses, ensuring efficient space utilization, inventory accuracy, security, and adherence to safety regulations (including dangerous goods handling where applicable).
- Inventory Control: Establish and maintain robust inventory control systems and procedures to minimize losses, optimize stock levels, and ensure accurate record-keeping across all locations.
- Transportation Management:Manage all inbound and outbound transportation activities, including carrier selection, negotiation of rates and contracts, shipment scheduling, and customs compliance for cross-border movements.
- Cross-Border Logistics: Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Canadian and US customs regulations, documentation requirements, and border crossing procedures to ensure smooth and compliant shipments.
- Vendor Management:Build and maintain strong relationships with third-party logistics providers, freight forwarders, and warehousing partners, monitoring their performance and ensuring service level agreements are met.
- Team Leadership and Development:Lead, mentor and develop warehouse and logistics staff across multiple locations, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Manage their schedules and workload.
- Budget Management:Develop and manage the logistics and warehousing budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Compliance and Safety:Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies across all warehouse and logistics activities.
- Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and resolve logistics and warehousing challenges, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency and reduce cost.
- Reporting and Analysis:Develop and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to warehousing, transportation, and inventory, providing regular reports to senior management.
- Collaboration:Work closely with other departments, including production, procurement, sales, and customer service, to ensure seamless supply chain operations.
- Technology Implementation:Evaluate and implement relevant technology solutions to improve warehouse management, transportation planning, and inventory visibility.
Knowledge And Skill Requirements
- Solid leadership experience in the logistics and transport sector (minimum 3 to 5 years)
