The Opportunity

Mosaic is seeking a Log Purchaser to work out of our Nanaimo or Campbell River offices on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager of Log Purchase, the Log Purchaser will collaborate across departments to meet volume, quality, and budgetary goals while supporting Mosaic's broader strategic priorities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading by example in safety and environmental management, including oversight of contractors;
  • Supporting the maintenance of SFI and PEFC certifications and other sustainability commitments;
  • Developing and maintaining production forecasts by sort and product for designated projects;
  • Supporting purchase program strategies related to Federal mark volume, First Nations partnerships, product mix, and positive cash margins;
  • Building and strengthening relationships with log suppliers, including First Nations tenure holders and private landowners;
  • Supporting First Nations partnership initiatives and resource planning;
  • Conducting timber assessments, analysis, bid development, and supporting log purchase agreements;
  • Participating in strategic planning, including annual operating plans and long-term supply strategies;
  • Managing log purchase production collaboratively to achieve inventory targets; and
  • Providing input on utilization, market conditions, and quality expectations to contractors.

What We're Seeking:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the BC forest industry;
  • Registered Professional Forester or Registered Forest Technician (RPF/RFT), or eligibility and progress towards these designations;
  • Experience working with First Nations and understanding of public land operations (preferred but not required);
  • Deep knowledge of coastal species log sorts (EUS) and markets;
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building skills, and confidence to represent Mosaic externally;
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and internal planning tools;
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to work in both office and field environments;
  • Occasional travel and out-of-town stays may be required.

Compensation:

The annual salary range for this position is $107,000 to $133,000, depending on skills, experience, and education.
