Locum Pediatric Endocrinologist

BC Children's Hospital & The University of British Columbia

Part-time Locum - 0.7 FTE, 13-month term

General Information

The Pediatric Endocrinologist reports to the Clinical Professor and Head, Division of Endocrinology, and is a member of the Division of Endocrinology at BC Children's Hospital (BCCH). They work with a team of nine clinical faculty and one scientist, alongside a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. The Division is affiliated with The Department of Pediatrics at The University of British Columbia (UBC).

The Pediatric Endocrinologist will participate in the Division's vision: empowering patients, fostering an exemplary team, delivering evolving care, and excelling in education and research. The Division maintains its academic excellence through ongoing clinical and pre-clinical research and educates future healthcare providers via a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited fellowship program. The programs serve pediatric patients (<19 years).

Specific Accountabilities
Medical Expertise - Division of Endocrinology
  • Diabetes Program: Care at diagnosis in the Diabetes Day Program, ongoing care in the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic, outreach clinics (Abbotsford, Prince George, Yukon), and telehealth services.
  • Endocrinology Program: Consultation services for pediatric patients with endocrine diagnoses, including outreach clinics in Prince George, Abbotsford, and Kelowna.
  • Gender Program: Provides information and treatment for pubertal blockade and gender-affirming hormone therapy for transgender and gender-nonconforming youth, collaborating with BCCH, community mental health, and Trans Care BC.
Clinical Care
  • Participate in outpatient clinics (endocrinology, diabetes, gender), inpatient services, and on-call duties.
Education & Academic Teaching
  • Conduct academic rounds and teach fellows and residents.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement projects aligned with divisional priorities.
Qualifications

Must hold a Medical Doctor degree with current or eligible licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, certification in Pediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Fellowship training in Endocrinology (or equivalent). Eligibility for faculty appointment at UBC is required.

The candidate should be committed to reconciliation efforts in Canada, understanding Indigenous social, economic, political, and historical realities, and be familiar with Indigenous-specific anti-racism and cultural safety initiatives, including relevant legislative acts and frameworks.
