Locum Pediatric Endocrinologist

BC Children's Hospital & The University of British Columbia

Part-time Locum - 0.7 FTE, 13-month term

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

General Information

The Pediatric Endocrinologist reports to the Clinical Professor and Head, Division of Endocrinology, and is a member of the Division of Endocrinology at BC Children's Hospital (BCCH). They work with a team of nine clinical faculty, one scientist, and a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. The Division is affiliated with The Department of Pediatrics at The University of British Columbia (UBC).


The Pediatric Endocrinologist will participate in the Division's vision: Empowered patients, an exemplary team, evolving care, and excellence in education and research. The Division aims to maintain academic excellence through clinical and pre-clinical research, and education of future healthcare providers via a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited fellowship program. The programs serve pediatric patients (<19 years).


Specific Accountabilities

Medical Expertise - Division of Endocrinology
  • Diabetes Program: providing care from diagnosis in the Diabetes Day Program and throughout childhood and adolescence in the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic, including outreach and telehealth clinics.
  • Endocrinology Program: offering consultation services for pediatric patients with endocrine diagnoses, including outreach clinics.
  • Gender Program: providing information and treatment for pubertal blockade and gender-affirming hormone therapy for transgender and gender-nonconforming youth, in partnership with BCCH, community mental health, and Trans Care BC.

Clinical Care
  • Participate in outpatient clinics for endocrinology, diabetes, and gender, as well as inpatient services and on-call duties.

Education & Academic Teaching
  • Conduct academic rounds and teach fellows and residents.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement projects aligned with divisional priorities.

Qualifications

Requires an MD with current or eligible licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, Royal College certification in Pediatrics, and Fellowship training in Endocrinology or equivalent. Eligibility for UBC faculty membership is also necessary. The candidate should be committed to reconciliation efforts in line with TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019). Knowledge of Indigenous issues and anti-racism initiatives is a strong asset.
