Position Summary

The Loading Supervisor, under the direction of the Logistics Manager, will primarily be responsible for overseeing the safe loading of trucks, assisting customers, and providing guidance and direction to the other shipping employees. This position will ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and safety standards. This role will also ensure the effectiveness of employees through assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal.

Responsibilities:

What you’ll do:

  1. Ensure safe work practices are being followed.
  2. Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations.
  3. Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations.
  4. Ensure that loads are shipped complete and that the trucks are loaded safely.
  5. Ensure that outside carriers are loaded according to the predetermined schedule.
  6. Work closely with the Logistics Coordinator to determine daily priorities.
  7. Notify the sales team of any product that did not make it on the truck.
  8. Inspect the racks and surrounding area daily to ensure that products are not forgotten.
  9. Ensure that all trucks have the required load manifest paperwork.
  10. Ensure that all employees take allotted vacation time in compliance with applicable employment and labour standards.
  11. Approve vacation requests and monitor vacation schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
  12. Ensure that the Loading lead hands are effectively training and monitoring the loading team.
  13. Participate in site and workplace inspections.
  14. Liaise with other departments as well as other shifts to ensure that all parties are aware of the priorities for the day.
  15. Ensure that every employee under your direction is trained on every task they will be required to perform throughout their shift (e.g., safe operation, paperwork completion, banding/strapping, housekeeping, setting up trailers, etc.).
  16. Ensure the timely loading and departure of customers.
  17. Assist with the loading of customer vehicles or the loading of trucks as required.
  18. Safely operate material handling equipment such as Moffetts, Combi-lift forklifts, and counterbalance forklifts.
  19. Unload shipments from vendors as required.
  20. Assist with the control of traffic in the yard.
  21. Communicate with co-workers and office staff regarding any problems that may arise (e.g., backorders, damaged products, etc.).
  22. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation of employees.
  2. Completion of supervisor competency training.
  3. Completion of forklift and overhead crane certification training.
  4. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain lasting working relationships.
  5. Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor the progress of all co-workers in the team.
  6. Shift flexibility.
  7. Ability to direct and motivate a team to achieve and exceed their goals.
  8. Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations.
  9. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  10. Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
  11. Knowledge and awareness of company products is a definite asset.
