Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which will have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Loading Master is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG's team, responsible for all activities related to mooring and loading of LNG carriers berthing at Woodfibre's floating storage and marine terminals. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Marine Operations and join early in the project execution phase to support operations readiness, ensuring a smooth transition to operational status, aligning with the company's goals of safety, reliability, and efficiency in LNG production in BC, Canada.

Responsibilities
During the Project Execution phase, the successful applicant will:
  • Provide oversight and technical support for signing long-term tug services agreements and terminal services such as piloting.
  • Ensure implementation of company's TERMPOL project recommendations prior to operations, including Full Mission Bridge Simulations (FMBS) to satisfy regulatory authorities.
  • Manage marine budget control and contribute to the Plant Operations budget.
  • Develop marine operating procedures, government-approved terminal operations manual, and marine emergency response plan, in coordination with regulators.
  • Support development of marine logistics services necessary for plant operations.
  • Assist in commissioning and start-up of Marine facilities, including cooldown and first cargo.
During the Operational phase, the applicant will:
  • Act as Terminal Representative, ensuring LNG Carrier mooring and cargo operations are conducted safely and according to procedures and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate vessel activities, maintaining high communication standards to manage issues effectively.
  • Handle pre-arrival communications, supervise berthing, mooring, un-berthing, conduct pre-load meetings and safety inspections, oversee cargo transfer operations, and ensure timely completion of loading activities.
  • Review LNG Tankers' compatibility studies and support marine assurance pre-approval activities.
  • Provide technical support, inspect contracted service vessels, and fulfill emergency response duties as part of the team.
Requirements and Experience
  • Experience as a Master Mariner or Cargo Officer for LNG or other liquefied gases ships.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Loading Master in LNG terminals.
  • Experience with floating LNG facilities (FSU, FSRU, FLNG) preferred.
  • Experience with marine assurance activities such as vessel compatibility assessments.
  • Broad marine operations experience related to LNG terminals, including contracting marine services, agency, pilotage, logistics.
  • Right to work in Canada preferred.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Education
  • Unlimited Master Mariner or Chief/Cargo Officer certificates.
  • Endorsements for dangerous cargo, including liquefied gas tankers and crude oil tankers.
