Do you want to make a meaningful impact within your community? Do you have strong leadership skills, and experience in a social serving agency? The Mustard Seed is looking for a Litter Crew Team Lead.

The Litter Crew Team Lead plays a vital part in the cleanliness and beautification of various neighbourhoods in the city. The position is responsible for supporting individuals who experience barriers to employment by working alongside and mentoring them. The aim of the program is to help participants develop skills, gain confidence, and acquire experience as they work towards finding sustainable employment. The Team Lead will also be responsible for administrative duties such as scheduling and reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support program participants employed through The Mustard Seed social enterprises.
  • Work alongside crew members to pick up litter and needles according to assigned routes; some sweeping and snow-shoveling may also be required.
  • Create staff schedules, be the key holder, monitor and request supplies, and perform minor equipment repairs.
  • Compile reports to partners and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with employment coaches and participants to encourage positive changes in lifestyle and behavior through supportive relationships, day-to-day interactions, and intentional goal setting.
  • Assist in the design and delivery of team meetings to address growth opportunities.
  • Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid, SafeTALK, NVCI) and attend monthly general meetings and support meetings with manager.
  • Must adhere to Health & Safety regulations and wear required personal protective equipment for the safe removal and handling of sharps and other objects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a social serving agency and/or counselling experience.
  • 1 year of work experience in a leadership or supervisory role, would be considered an asset.
  • Good working knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • The ability to observe confidentiality standards, and learn and abide by OH&S, FOIP.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle with a minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance, would be considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • May be required to work shifts at two separate locations as needed.
  • The role involves providing ongoing compassionate care, resolving conflicts, and demonstrating strong organizational skills. You will regularly interact with a diverse group of individuals, and may occasionally encounter challenging behaviors.
  • This position is often fast-paced, and requires moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve.
  • The position will require frequent manual labor with ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work will require standing and walking for long periods, performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Will encounter sharps, needles, and other drug materials.
  • Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive. Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.
