Aviva Trial Lawyers is seeking passionate and skilled litigation clerks for our Ontario offices as we grow again!

As a litigation clerk, you will support one lawyer in handling insurance defence (tort) litigation matters. We offer a hybrid work model, promoting flexibility, collegiality, collaboration, and mentorship both virtually and in person. You will handle clerking tasks and manage day-to-day files.

Aviva Trial Lawyers operates across Canada with five Ontario offices : Toronto, Markham, Oakville, Ottawa, and London.

What you'll do :

  • Prepare and draft correspondence and legal documents (e.g., statements of defence, motion records, affidavits, pre-trial / mediation memos, cost outlines, bill of costs, subpoenas, summons to witness, consent and dismissal orders, document briefs); ensure all documents and forms are filed with the court according to Civil Procedure Rules .
  • Compile books of authorities and factums.
  • Request and follow up on productions and undertakings.
  • Summarize discovery notes, transcripts, economic loss, and medical reports.
  • Arrange investigations / surveillance, including preparing instruction letters to investigators.
  • Arrange independent medical examinations and prepare medical briefs.
  • Keep the lawyer’s calendar updated and maintain the internal database.
  • Maintain file organization.
  • Book travel arrangements as needed.
  • Ensure the integrity of information in Ghost Practice applications.
  • Liaise with counsel, external parties, and claims operations.

What you'll bring :

  • Minimum of 3+ years of legal assistant and law clerk experience in insurance defence or personal injury litigation.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with Civil Procedure Rules and court forms.
  • Customer-service orientation and superb communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Mature work ethic and good sense of humour.
