Litigation Associate – Construction (Downtown Toronto)

Job description

Our client is one of Canada's highly distinguished litigation firms. They are currently looking to add a Litigation Associate with 5+ years experience in construction law and construction-related insurance defence work.

Your new role

In this new role, you will be required to handle many files through the litigation process both independently and as a member of an experienced team. The successful candidate will have carriage of his/her own files and will also work with senior counsel on more complex matters. In this role, you will be negotiating and litigating all types of construction disputes. You will deal with matters including issues relating to the tender process, procurement, money due, deficiencies, liens, trusts, and negligent work. You will also advise clients in the negotiation and drafting of all construction-related contracts, including design-build, construction management, stipulated sum prime contracts and subcontracts, P3 contracts, and tender and RFP documents.

What you will need to succeed

To be considered for this position, you must have a minimum of 5 years’ post-call experience, with demonstrated knowledge and interest in litigation, particularly construction-related matters. You can work well under pressure, manage priorities, and meet deadlines. You will also have strong teamwork skills, be trustworthy, accountable, proactive, and have a positive work attitude. You possess the confidence and legal acumen to do great work. You have thorough knowledge of the Construction Act and other legislation. You must also have a demonstrated ability to develop and manage client relationships.
