Crafty Penguins is growing our team! We are hiring a full-time Linux Systems Specialist - Senior to collaborate with our growing team and serve our growing customer base.

This role requires you to creatively solve technical problems but to also develop and maintain strong relationships with customers. In this role, the willingness to learn and be adaptable is absolutely essential.

We are a Linux, Open Source, DevOps, and Kubernetes consulting company that utilizes a variety of tools to help clients in many industries in the areas of : server support, infrastructure design, cloud management, data backups, network security, disaster recovery, and more. Crafty Penguins is based in Lethbridge, Alberta, however, this job posting is fully remote.

Youre good at

You have :

  • Advanced knowledge of Linux-based operating systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Networking
  • Debugging problems with Unix based operating systems and IP based networking at a very low level.
  • No problems working in either RHEL or Debian based linux distributions
  • Good knowledge and experience with :

Debugging container based workloads, and their runtime tooling (LXC / D, Docker, Podman)

  • Linux based hypervisor systems and related tooling (KVM, Xen / XCP-ng, Proxmox, etc.)
  • Good scripting skills with Bash and Python
  • 5+ years experience doing the items above
  • Youve worked at a company that does Linux consulting, or youve done this as a contractor
  • Youve used a ticketing system like ConnectWise or some other tool to manage tickets and track time
  • Performance tuning, debugging, and clustering of Linux based Database Systems (MySQL, Postgresql, SQLite) and SQL in general
  • High level networking skills - Campus / Enterprise networking, VLANS, VPNS, Managed switches, Overlay networks, Dynamic routing protocols.
  • Software development experience in various languages
  • Certifications on our platforms and products (AWS, Azure, K8S, RHEL, and the like)
  • 2-year technical diploma (CIS or CS) or greater

  • Communicate and handle client requests
  • Handling client system alerts
  • Conducting client system patching and health checks
  • Onboard new clients and create roadmaps for improving their infrastructure
  • Time tracking for all hours worked
  • Some afterhours will be required
